GOOGLE MAPS
The purpose of these maps is to identify the location of Gloucestershire pubs
with an accuracy sufficient to identify the building. To achieve this the
10-figure OS grid reference is required. This is an ongoing task, as we do
not have the OS grid reference for all pubs and for some pubs there only
6-figure references are available. The current information on OS grid
reference is included in the pub's RAIG entry.
A Google map has been produced for all Gloucestershire pubs with an OS grid
reference, distinguishing between those with the full 10-figure reference and
those with the 6-figure reference.
Google maps can be annotated with the pub information stored in a kml file.
The file can be viewed in two ways
- on Google Maps available via the Map option on the main Google web page.
- on Google Earth, which must be downloaded and installed.
Google Maps
This map is pre-defined and the viewer has little or no control over the display. One issue
is that only a limited number of pubs can be displayed at one time and so the display
requires three pages.
Click
here to see the Google Map. At present, this version lags behind the Google Earth version.
Google Earth
This solution requires the viewer to first download and
install Google Earth.
The next step is to download the kml file and then import the file into Google Earth.
Currently the pubs with
symbols represents pubs with the full 10-figure
grid references and
symbols represents pubs with the lesser 6-figure grid references.
How to help
Everyone can help by supplying missing OS Grid References of Gloucestershire pub and
checking the accuracy of those listed.
