Busy, comfortable century free house in
open Cotswold countryside close to
Minchinhampton Common and Gatcombe Park.
The restaurant has recently been
extended and the whole building is now
pleasantly refurbished. Over sixty malt
whiskies are stocked. Usually the two
guests are from local micro-breweries.
It became a hostelry in 1620. The first
landlord became a part-time footpad to
bolster the takings. His wife objected
to his nefarious activities and, after a
row, allegedly fell down the stairs and
died. Her ghost reputedly inhabits the
pub. An excellent base for touring the
area.
